This is what arrived in the mail today! A complimentary copy of my favourite craft magazine, Homespun!
I say 'complimentary', as inside is a project designed by me and the very talented Jennifer Knol. I designed the stitchery some time ago and Jennifer completed the project by turning my pre-made hexagon blocks into her stunning 'trademark-style' appliqued circles, then she added borders making it into a gorgeous wallhanging. A huge thank you to Jennifer for agreeing to share this design with me.
This wallhanging is very dear to my heart as Jennifer and I donated our project payment to Finnan's Gift. Finnan's story moved me to tears earlier this year, when I witnessed the heartbreak Olympic gold-medalist Alisa Camplin was going through, after losing her newborn son after 6 open heart surgeries. Finnan only lived 10 days.
Our payment has helped towards raising funds for the Royal Childrens Hospital to assist in purchasing an echocardiology scanning machine. This machine will assist in diagnosing congenital heart disease.
The goal of reaching $300,000 in raised funds, to help pay for this important machine was reached in July and the machine will be unveiled on October 20th and handed over to the RCH cardiology department. Finnan's Gift will continue to raise funds for the RCH and I am hoping this actual wallhanging can be donated or auctioned to assist future grants....more to come on this!
I am very proud to work alongside Jennifer and to contribute our support to a hospital that works so hard to care for our children.
Homespun magazine has recently joined many other magazines in the online world and you can view it in digital format on your iPad or visit zinio to subscibe digitally. This is great news for overseas readers!
